The girls of Puro Instinct have their debut, Headbangers in Ecstacy, coming out later this month. Here’s the newest cut from the record, a dreamy mellow-dramatic tune called “Silky Eyes,” which feels like it’s covered in pink-colored whip cream. Mexican Summer has a bunch of preorder bundles available, which include combinations of limited edition LPs, posters, photo magazines, and a bunch of other stuff. Act quick cause I think the limited edition LPs are close to gone.
Chicago minimalist dream-poppers BIGCOLOUR are asking for a little bit of help. They have a new album coming out sometime in late March/early April, and they want to give it an appropriate pressing on vinyl. And in order to do that, they need a good amount of funding. So they have put together a small “kickstarter” in which they have their first single from the new album, “playing puzzles,” available for download for $5 on BandCamp, and for every 10th person that buys the single will get their new LP for free! This is the least any fan of them can do, especially since their two 2010 EPs, Meshes of the Laughternoon and the fantastic Centuries of Summer, were released for free. And it’ll feel really good to be a part of an amazing album, which judging by “playing puzzles,” will a great beach-kicking, foot-stomping, dream-weaving, “ohh la la”-filled pop adventure.
After a string of 7″s and their amazing self-titled debut, Beach Fossils are set to release their first EP, What A Pleasure. You’ll find the soft-pop ballad “Calyer” on the new EP, screaming Beach Fossils’ lovable dueling Brit-pop guitars. What A Pleasure will be out February 22nd via Captured Tracks.
Following their newest album Hidden Lands, Colorado’s Candy Claws just released a glowing holiday song to play along to your next ice skating trip. If you haven’t yet, check out a few of their tracks from Hidden Lands via P4k and GvsB.
Running on the success of 7″s from Cults, Gauntlet Hair, and SLEEP ∞ OVER, Gorilla vs. Bear/Weekly Tape Deck‘s joint label, Forest Family Records, will be putting out their first 12″, from Grecian duo Keep Shelly In Athens. The luxurious jam “Running Out Of You” plays on haunting synths and distant beats, but evolves halfway through into an floor-shaking 80′s ultra-dance track. ”Fokionos Negri Street” turns on the mega-sexual tones and jazz strings/keys, and puts you in the shoes of a cologne commercial. You should pre-order the beige vinyl 12″ here.
This Colorado two-piece is furthering itself as one of 2010′s best new bands. Seriously, they only have five songs recorded and they all are incredible, that has to amount for something. Here it there newest maximalist-dream single, “Out, Don’t…,” out now on Mexican Summer on clear gold/yellow vinyl. Buy it here. And if you haven’t already, check out huge track “I Was Thinking…” from an earlier 7″ on Forest Family Records.
I am a little late on the rush, but any time is a good time for Gauntlet Hair! I had the music a while back, but “I Was Thinking…” didn’t hit me until recently, and it hit big. I feel like every “witty comparison to something abstract” has been already written, so go read those for yourself. In the meantime, check out this incredible 7″ released by Forest Family Records. If you were cooler than me and caught onto this earlier, you should have or did order the “cloudy” 7″, because at this point it has sold out. Rumor has it that they are have or are going to begin recording a full-length soon.
