Unsparing Sea are a five-piece indie folk band from Cleveland, OH. I had the chance to see some of their set when they opened on the Cleveland stop of the Yeasayer/Ponytail tour. I hadn’t really seen enough of them to generate an opinion, but I knew they had a good reputation. They got brought back up in the spotlight for me when they released their newest album, In The Diamond Caverns. I actually took advantage of a deal my local record store, Music Saves, was holding. Basically, if you bring this flyer into Music Saves, you get three dollars off this album. I’m very glad I did this. The album strolls between two different tones of music, one of dreamy folk, and the other beautiful indie rock. Opener “Sandpaper/Sadpaper” goes to a new level of gorgeousness, thanks to J.R. Bennett’s gentle calming voice and the use of the harp, cello, and violin. I’m really looking forward to seeing them along with Bears at the “It’s A Beachland Christmas” show.
