The Modern Electric – “Northcoast Christmas”

MP3: || Northcoast Christmas ||

After perhaps one of the best debuts from a Cleveland band in years, The Modern Electric have returned with a Christmas treat, “Northcoast Christmas.” They actually debuted this song about two years ago at still one of my favorite shows ever, “It’s A Beachland Christmas” 2009. When I wrote about it then, I said that “Northcoast Christmas” was just as much a song about Cleveland as it was a song about Christmas, and that still holds true. Garrett Komyati and his wonderful voice hit on subjects such as thrift store shopping, quoting A Christmas Story, and praying for a Browns’ win and snow days. Listen and download the incredible song above, and you’re bound to have this stuck in your head for the rest of the Christmas season. Head over to their Bandcamp to get the three-track “Northcoast Christmas” single for $2.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Summer in the City 2010!

Today is the first day in a series of shows that Cleveland’s own Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be putting on as part of their Summer in the City event! It kicks off with the Carolina Chocolate Drops with openers the Lighthouse and the Whaler, but expect me to be there next week for Free Energy! And then for the Modern Electric opening for Deer Tick on August 11th, and Megachurch for Trans Am on the 18th! The best part about these shows…THEY’RE FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just show up, and enjoy some sweet music! I saw Akron/Family when they were a part of this last year, and it was so so so rad. All shows start at 7pm, and just to let you know, they will start right at 7pm! So see y’all there!

I think one of the best parts of the Cleveland music scene is the pop scene. Bears, Afternoon Naps, and The Dreadful Yawns have help establish some great Cleveland pop, and now we can add The Modern Electric to that list. First off, this band is very young, like barely in their twenties young, but you could never tell from their music. Their sound is fully mature on their debut with warm indie pop, filled from the beginning to end with beautiful piano, catchy inviting guitar, and frontman Garrett Komyati’s incredible voice. These guys don’t play shows very often, but they will be playing “It’s A Beachland Christmas” on December 23rd at Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland. Bear is headlining this show(!!!), and six other bands, including The Modern Electric, will be filling both the ballroom and tavern with great music. This is an event to NOT miss!
