Most times when people tell you their band sounds like Sabbath or early Zeppelin, you immediately think they suck. And then they tell you their album sounds like it was recorded in a dirty cellar, you basically turn off to anything they say. Mount Carmel manage to fulfill both these traits and by the grace of the classic rock gods, do not suck at all. I first heard about the Columbus power-trio Mount Carmel from the good words of Bill over at I Rock Cleveland. Upon first listen, their music easily pays homage to blues geniuses Cream, riff-gods Black Sabbath, and heavy-hitters Zeppelin. Tracks “Livin Like I Wanna” and “Still Listening” bring the blues forcefully, even sounding like Jack Bruce sat in for vocals. No joke, there’s even a John Bonham “Moby Dick”-echoing drum solo on “Hear Me Callin”. The toughest obstacle that Mount Carmel have to overcome is that sense of freshness in a genre that was popular long ago, but they successful jump that barrier and prove to be a wrecking ball of music in 2010. This was released on April 17th from Siltbreeze Records, and you can pick up the vinyl for $15 in the U.S. right HERE!
