It feels good to say that I can definitely call Max Alper a “composer”. These 20 compositions are some of the most innovative musical pieces maybe all year. Don’t be throw off by the album name, there are tones, but most of them are not in a cluster-fuck form. “boxfanblues” begins with multiple hand claps tracks, along with layered harmonizing vocals tracks and eventually combining into what sounds like one perfect vocals track. The song ends with a synth drone and falsetto vocal pitches, which honestly sounded like outer space to me. I think the best thing about this album is its diversity of music. He will go from the ambient, sample-filled “awake (for a film)”, into the piano-diddly “mathclass”, into the acoustic ballad “tencents”. Its quite an interesting choice of tracks and order, but it works quite well as no song sounds like the others, which is a huge problem bands suffer from now-a-days. I recommend this not only to ambient listeners, but to people who want a new musical experience. Max Alper has some seriously talent, and I really hope that something will come out of this release, cause he deserves it.
