It’s very hard to believe that Ducktails’ Matthew Mondanile is a guy from New Jersey, who crafts this hazy pop drone. The opening track, “On The Boardwalk”, throws you on a California boardwalk, a very hot day, with rollerbladers and ice cream vendors all around. Vocals are used sparingly but when used, they are fuzzy and almost indistinguishable. The music may not be super complex, but it doesn’t need to be. It does best at creating an incredible vivid image that can be very pleasant especially when it starts getting cold. Ducktails is technically unsigned, but Mondanile has released two full-lengths and other releases on a few different labels. You can get those LPs, and other CDs and 7″s at the DUCKTAILS SHOPPE.
