“Say No To Love” is the newest single from cutesy indie poppers The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. The A-side is a near-perfect pop track, within the clean-cut twee riffs and Kip Berman’s wannabe-Brit vocals, and a bridge that’s about as heavy as Pains will ever get. B-side, “Lost Saint”, is a nice acoustic ballad, floating around with starry synths and a glittering guitar solo. This seems like a drift away from their noise pop sound on their 2009 self-titled, but it’s not bad at all. They are going for a more elegant pop sound, much like tracks on their Higher Than The Stars EP, and it sounds better than ever. I got to see The Pains of Being Pure at Heart last night at Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, and picked up a copy of this 7″ on seafoam green vinyl! If you can’t catch them on their tour with Surfer Blood, you can order a copy from Slumberland when this release on June 8th (tomorrow!).
